Towards a corpus-based typology of clause linkage

An analytical framework and case studies on non-local dependencies

Welcome!

This linguistic research project is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). It starts in April 2011 and is scheduled to run for three years. The project is jointly carried out by the universities of Zurich (Linguistics department, PI B. Bickel) and Jena (English department, PI V. Gast).

The project aims at statistically modelling linguistic variation in the area of complex sentences. It is based on the investigation of corpora from genealogically and geographically diverse languages that have been richly annotated. In carrying out our research programme we intend to (i) develop an analytical framework and an infrastructure for corpus-based typology, (ii) determine the structural variation in the domain of complex sentences within a probabilistic framework, and (iii) contribute to the documentation and analysis of endangered languages.

A detailed description of the project can be found in the project proposal (pdf).
